Music Tuition

The Education Authority employs instructors to provide children with the opportunity of learning to play an instrument. Unfortunately, not every need can be met, but provision in the following instruments is available : violin viola, cello, double bass, cornet, horn, trombone, trumpet, euphonium, baritone, bass, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, tenor sax, guitar and drum kit. The provision of such musical instruction is governed by the following guidelines:
1. Pupils who have studied an instrument in primary school, may continue as first priority.
2. Pupils who have not begun such study in primary school, but who wish to learn an orchestral instrument in secondary school, and who show talent and ability in the classroom, or display aptitude in a test, may commence instruction. If there is an instrument available, and the instructor has room for them in the timetable, they are accepted for a trial period.
3. There is a charge for Instruction. There is an additional charge of £10 per term for instrument hire.
